40 things I've learnt in 40 years

1. My sense of direction is terrible. I sussed that out a long time ago.

2. Sometimes a break from your routine is exactly what you need.

3. Do what makes you happy. If you love your job, you never have to do a day's ‘work’ in your life.

4. Mistakes are the best way to learn….just don’t go repeating the same ones that often.

5. Live for the day, the hour, the minute…Work towards goals but have lots of fun along the way.

6. Don’t believe everything you are told…it’s best to try and find out for yourself.

7. Memories are priceless. It wasn’t an waste of time taking all those photos.

8. There are so many opportunities out there….take them.

9 The world owes you nothing. You owe it to yourself to decide where your life ends up

10. Your school years are not the best years of your life. Yes, they are responsibility free but if you believe that, then your life kind of stops at 18.

11. Don’t say anything in front of your child that you don’t want repeated at the most inconvenient of times.

12. Petrol Roulette sometimes doesn’t end well. When the dial says 0km left, it’s time to get Diesel.

13. Never put cashmere in the washing machine…although my 5 yr old daughter loved her new jumper.

14. Don’t wear a bikini on a water slide.

15. Childbirth is painful….but epidurals are amazing!

16. When your children are small, the colour white must be avoided.

17. IKEA furniture instructions are not to be taken too seriously…it’s just their opinion of how to put things together….you will always have a few screws left over.

18. Food and Travel are excellent things to spend money on. My dad taught me that.

19. It’s more important what you put into your body than what you put on it.

20. The power of the mind is the strongest force.

21. My mouth is sometimes a little bit ahead of my brain.

22. Unpredictable makes life so interesting.

23. Serendipity

24. Never say ‘Never’…..things change as you get older and what I thought at 20, I don’t think now.

25. When you become a parent, everything changes. You realise the things you worried about before that you thought mattered at the time, don’t matter at all.

26. Every self experiment is a success because even if it doesn’t get the results you expected or were hoping for, you have learnt something new about yourself.

27. Sometimes the key to succeeding in life is not to try harder, it’s trying another way.

28. F**k it is sometimes a perfectly justifiable philosophy.

29. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new about myself or about the world.

30. Spend money on beds and shoes…if you’re not in one, you’re in the other.

31. Endings are new beginnings.

32. The best things in life are not ‘things’ they are experiences, people, thoughts and dreams.

33. There is something valuable in every situation, good or bad.

34. Nothing ruins a good night more than sore feet…always carry a pair of emergency flip flops to run for the last tube.

35. My maths teacher lied to me…I have never used Algebra in my life.

36. Attitude is everything. The power of positivity is a real thing.

37. Don’t just talk about things…’just do it’ (I have Nike to thank for that one!)

38. Experience is the greatest teacher of all. Knowledge gained through trial and error. Every experience both good and bad has contributed to making me who I am and my life what it is.

39. Apply what you have learned to make wiser decisions. Knowledge becomes wisdom only through application.

40. I still have a lot to learn……
