Big Decisions

Considering something big, is always a time filled with excitement and endless possibilities, but also with fear. However, strangely enough, neither of us felt that fear. It was almost a feeling of wondering why we had never done this earlier.

For the girls, it came as a huge shock. They were horrified at the idea of moving away. The idea of leaving their friends and life in England behind was not something they could understand.

So, there we were....the day before the interview, standing at Geneva airport waiting for the train to take us to our hotel. My husband had been asked to play in a Staff v Parents football match so as soon as we arrived at the station, the Director of the school picked us up and took us to the match.

2 minutes in Jon scored a goal...great start to the interview I thought.

The day of the interview arrives and my nervous husband leaves for the school. I think we had both decided that the opportunity he could be given within the next 24 hours could change our lives...now that's certainly something to get nervous about.

What would I do for the day? Well, if we were going to contemplate moving to a new country, I had to make sure I liked it and could imagine our life working out here. It just happened to be the Primary School Open Day where, if my husband got the job, our girls would go.

I chatted to lots of parents of the children who already attended the school and got to observe and speak to, what would be, my girls teachers. I can't believe how lucky I was to have the opportunity to do this.

I spent the rest of the day exploring the town and wondering how my husband was doing, and wanting more than anything for him to be offered the job.

We met up later in the afternoon. The interview went well and the decision would be made over the weekend.

It was the most beautiful day with some picture perfect views over the lake and as we drank our coffee discussing our thoughts and feelings about taking on such a huge life change, the phone rang...

The decision had been made and it was unanimous....He did it, he got the job!

Jon looked at me and I just nodded....'let's do it'

After the phone call, we smiled, we laughed, we cried, and then came the realisation of what we were about to do....
