My Nutritional Philosophy

Dessert Plates & Forks

I truly embrace ‘You Are What You Eat’ and above all else I believe in the quality of food. My health is the most important asset I have and I invest a lot of time and money on making sure things are just right.

Organic; Grass Fed; Non GMO; Local; Seasonal; Nutrient Dense; Fresh; Whole and Wild. These are words I frequently use to describe what I eat…Oh, and not forgetting, delicious!

I’m passionate about the food choices I make and although I’ve always eaten good food, 5 years of research and experimenting have seen big changes to all aspects of my nutrition with regards to what, when and how often. Knowledge is power and many of my decisions are backed by science and are individual to me and what works for my body and lifestyle.

I eat when I’m hungry and not because the clock tells me to. If I wake and I’m not hungry, I wait until I am. In fact, my favourite time to eat my first meal is 10am; usually omelette, chicken or fish and vegetables.

What?! I don’t eat breakfast as soon as I wake? The most important meal of the day…or so you are led to believe!

Not Compromising

90% of the time I eat food that will benefit and nourish my body, will aid my physical performance or enhance my recovery after training. The rest of the time, I eat food purely because of the taste even knowing that it gives me no nutritional value whatsoever. Food should be enjoyable and not something you feel guilty about doing.

Although I prepare many of my meals in advance, I don't spend much time cooking. I like the simple approach. If I think I may find myself in a situation when there will not be any suitable choices available such as when I’m travelling, I take my own. I will NOT compromise! I would go without rather than make a bad choice and there is no way you will see me eating out of tupperware! Food is meant to look nice and eaten off a plate.

Challenging myself to think outside what I’ve been led to believe

Many a nutritional myth has been busted due to my refusal to submit to the standard beliefs, just because most people think they are true. Guess what? Turns out many are not.

Of course, there is so much conflicting advice out there which creates lots of confusion; avoid eating fat; don't eat Carbs after 6pm; you must eat every 3 hours or your metabolism will crash....I could go on. I like to look at things from a scientific perspective - I won’t always tell you what you want to hear, but I will tell you the truth.

No two bodies are the same or react the same way, so although certain nutritional principles should be followed, unique metabolisms, personal preferences and food sensitivities require an individual approach in order to create the perfect nutritional profile; even those are constantly changing as we age and are dependant on our individual goals.

The ‘Black and White’ approach towards nutrition needs to go- there are many approaches. This is an aspect I focus heavily on with my clients - finding the right one for you; one that will suit your lifestyle; one that you will stick too. That’s when you will see amazing results.

Nutrition is the foundation of our health; it can alter the way you look, feel and perform - it’s the first line of defence for both the treatment and the prevention of disease.

I will be writing a lot more about many of the experiments I have tried - all of which have been a success even if they didn’t have the desired effect. Why? Because I now know what works and what doesn’t work for me. I don’t stick to strict meal plans because I have created a sustainable plan, which although it requires thought and a certain amount of planning, is effortless.

If you think it’s time to make your health a priority, why not get in touch and see how I can help. You will be amazed at the results. For inspiration, take a look at Laura’s 12 Week challenge with me; it’s changed her life and she’s never looked or felt better.
